Makes me laugh every time I am sick.....

I have been a little bit sick this week and every I am not feeling well there is one saying that makes me laugh... " I am only 2 stomach bugs away from being my perfect weight!". I don't even know where I first heard this but it always puts a smile on my face when I am not feeling well.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I absolutely love valentine's day. What's not to love flowers, candy, chocolate, a special dinner! Ihere people saying it is a commercial holiday thought up by manufactureres to get people to spend, spend, spend. Well...I don't care! I love flowers and I think any excuse to buy them is a perfect one. Today I made valentine's cookies for the kids, bought my husband 10 irises (they are his favorite flower)  and I am going to volunteer in my daughter's kindergarten class for the party! I remember I even loved this day as a kid. I would be so excited to get all the cards fromn school mates. Then when I would get home I would look a them a million times, rereading the ones my crushes gave me hoping and searching for a special note! Now I have 5 permanant valentines and it couldn't get any better. But I say even if you don't have a special someone treat yourself. I mean you can't really love anyone else until you love yourself=)  So go out, buy yourself some flowers, get some chinese takeout and watch a awesome movie, oh and don't forget the chocolate! What do you guys love about valentine's day?  Have an awesome day!

Blog I adore....

A few years ago a neighbor gave me the book "The creative family", by Amanda Blake Soule. I absolutely loved the book  I was eager to add her next book to my collection.  I recently came across her blog and have become an avid fan. Her blog, very much like her books, seems comfortable and familiar, with so many wonderful ideas for families large and small. It seems as though so many people are wrapped up in the "newest and latest". Soulemama (Amanda's blog) is quite the opposite. She focuses on making memories that count and the ones that in 30 years time we will remember. Go on over and check out her blog (and her books for that matter) you won't be disappointed.

The Art of Thank You

My husband and I recently agreed to watch our neighbors dog for a week while they were out of town. They have the funniest little bulldog which is a story all in itself. In the evening our neighbor came over and dropped off the dog, the supplies and an envelope. After we got the funny little thing settled in I opened the envelope and to my delight there was a handwritten thank you note.
Some may think thank you cards are a thing of the past. Sure we say "thanks" but it is often through a phone call (guilty), an email, or a text and I am here to tell you that NONE of these measure up to a handwritten note. You don't need fancy stationary (although now I feel the need to go out and buy some),you don't need perfect penmanship (if your handwriting is messy at least make sure they can read your name and thanks, they will assume the rest says something nice and will be delighted!). It will make someones day to receive a card, a note, anything that shows your appreciation.
When I think of thank you cards I think of my grandma, Grammy, who was so elegant. She had a certain something that was added to everything she did. She would have never forgotten to send a note to someone who did something special for her. She even took calligraphy classes to ensure her writing was impeccable (you by no means need to go this far!). For my Grandparents 50th anniversary all of the grand kids wrote special notes saying what we loved most about them. She wrote a thank you note in return telling us what she loved most about us. My sister and I dug those up a few months ago and had a good laugh.
So...when in doubt send a note. If you went to a party, a dinner, a neighbor or a friend helped you, someone helped your child- send a thank you! Trust me it will make someone smile and it will make you stand out as a thoughtful person who was raised with manners!

Things I love...

I have decided to dedicate the majority of my blog to things I love.  For me this is a huge category, including people, places, things, times....everything! There are so many places in this world to read about serious issues and there are not nearly enough places to escape to the fun, happy side of things. So I aim to change that!
Of course I obviously LOVE my family to bits, but my first post will focus more on my latest obsession....RE-Lilly!  Those of you with a facebook account become friends with Re-Lilly, those of you who don't have facebook (there may be some of you out there) sign up just so you can become friends with re-Lilly. Re-Lilly is my favorite new site, it is dedicated to selling buying everything Lilly Pulitzer you can think of! It is meticulously organized and affordable, really does it get any better than that? The creator of the page posts new items everyday, so it is a little bit to not get obsessed. So my advice...go to Re-Lilly, like their page, and sell your Lilly's to me!
